I’ve used iPhones all my life and am currently using the iPhone 8 (regular, not plus). I want to switch to a Samsung Galaxy phone but have no idea which to pick. I’m looking for something affordable, since the camera quality and storage space will already be way better than the iPhone 8’s. What do y’all recommend? Also I use Verizon so I’m open to trade in deals or anything like that.
used, you can pick up an S21 Ultra 256GB for around $350-400. it’s probably the oldest and best phone for the price. just got my mom and girlfriend each one since they dont wanna buy new. i have an S23 Ultra thats great. all in how much you’re willing to fork out
a good start is the samsung s23
or the s23 ultra if you want one of the best cameras, and the spen
or the Z fold3 or Zfold 5 (i started using a used Zfold 2, the big screen and multitasking is very cool)
current promo with verizon is $800 off on a mid-high tier plan, with a mid-high tier trade-in (unfortunately, the iphone 8 is a low tier phone, but you could get a mid tier $100 pixel 4a or a nokia 8 V 5g, and use those as a trade-in)
S22 Ultra/S23 Ultra or wait for upcoming S24
Galaxy S23Ultra or wait for a Galaxy S24Ultra in 2024.
something affordable

Wait for the S24 to release (should be out in a few months) and get that or the S23 generation before at a discount.
Or check out Google Pixel, they are pretty nice.
Stick with iPhone or pixel. Samsung build quality is garbage and their support is outsourced to the Phillipines and is garbage. At least with iphone you can take it to an apple store. The Samsung 'experience ’ stores aren’t helpful.
Anything in the S21 or S23 Series depending on your budget. Except Fe
Wait for S24 ultra at this point of time
S23 no doubt
iPhone is the best phone to switch to I reckon get a 15.
How can a phone with 60hz even be considered in 2023?
Regular S23 or S23 FE are the two best “affordable” flagship Samsung phones you can get at the moment. S23 FE is going to be a bit cheaper, with some trade offs, while with the regular S23, you’ll get the full flagship experience comparable to the latest iPhone.
For budget flagship - A54 if you want software support, and S21U if you don’t care about that
For all-out monster: S23U, absolutely goated.
For low budget: A14, seriously decent value for 189
For some middle ground: S23 FE or S23
A54 it’s not budget flagship,it’s a midrange phone that it’s expensive and doesn’t worth it. Basically in W years you change the. Phone because it will be so slow
A54 is the best of both worlds. I was on the S series and switched to the A series when S removed the microsd card. Now I get a free phone every 2 years from my carrier instead of spending $500 each upgrade. It is slightly slower than the S series, Exynos vs Snapdragon, so you see a difference on high end gaming but that’s about it, everything else is fine. Video streaming and the camera is as good as anything Samsung has and better than Apple.
I like to load up my phone like a computer so I demand the microsd card, that basically means Samsung A series, some Pixelles and some Sonys, but my carrier gives me the A series for free so life is good. Guaranteed 4 android version upgrades so up to Android 17 (we’re on 13).
If you grab a free phone now you can always upgrade later, but its a good way to get used to a new platform which is what you are doing. I agree the other series are not worth it, either S23 ultra or A54.
Nothing is free.
Verizon has several “free” phones.

The A54 5g is ‘free’ if you sign a 36 month contract.
S23 Ultra is obviously the current best Android has to offer but high price comes with that. Sounds like you don’t need all the bells and whistles of a top tier phone. The S23 or S23+ would be great options, the base S23 would still be a massive upgrade from your current phone. If you’re not in a rush, the S24 line will be coming soon and they’ll have great promos for those phones on release as well.
the ultra is already 900 at best buy and might go lower this friday, is it worth it for that much and given its massive size? i had my eyes on the regular one for one handed use cz im tired of large phones but the deals are making it irresistible and i miss the s pen on my 3.5 year old xiaomi.
Samsung is likely to launch the new S24 in February. I’d hold off.
I’d hold off and buy S23 at a discount*
*January
What is your budget? I just switched to Samsung from iphone. I can help you out.
