Recently brought in my 2010 Ford Taurus to the Local Ford dealership as the power steering went out. They did checked it out and said in addition to the steering pump, the front lower control arm bushings are worn/torn and the steering rack needs replacement. I had them replace the steering rack and front control arms 4 years ago (15k miles ago). Seems like some shoddy work or parts as I do imagine that those parts should not need replacing every 15k miles.
Did you replace with oem parts, or with aftermarket parts. Makes a huge difference in quality and durability.
Regardless, a rack shouldnt leak after 15k, but a cheap reman, with cheap seals, and an already honed bore thats slightly oversized could absolutely leak after 15k
It was a Ford dealership that did the replacement. I would expect them to use OEM parts.
At this point I am probably going to have another shop take a look at it and if they say the same have the pump replaced and then use it as a trade in.
