I have been going back and forth the past few days and I just cannot decide, the limited edition is just too cool looking, but I really wish it had a glossy screen. Anyone else having the same dilemma?

I’m surprised with there still isn’t a video on comparing the glossy to the etched yet given people have them both already. I ordered both and still debating on which to keep after seeing a true comparison of the 2

I don’t particularly care about the limited edition but I’m having a lot of trouble regarding glossy vs etched. I really want to maximize the picture quality. I’m coming from an etched 512 model which I did enjoy. The screen was never good enough for me to care about whether the anti glare affected the picture quality. Now that it will be OLED I want it to look as good as possible.

I think this has been blown way out of proportion. There’s a trade-off being made between a tiny bit of saturation in exchange for significant improvement in terms of glare/reflections.

If you know you really want the ultimate image quality and don’t care about reflections, then glossy is for you. If you do care about reflections or take your Deck to environments where you don’t control the lighting, the etched glass will be great.

The majority of people won’t care and will be happy with whichever you get but the culture created around “always having the absolute best” has created a ton of stress (for lack of a better word) and concern for people.

Really it boils down to “do you want greatly improved glare reduction and slightly less saturated colors (and contrast) or do you want the best possible saturation/color accuracy in exchange for glare when you’re in certain environments” and all the side-effects that come with that choice. Personally, I’m going for the 1TB deck since I prefer the trade-off of slightly less saturation for less glare when traveling or in a place I don’t control the lighting in.

Don’t forget the improved durability of etched. Anything I ever have with a glossy screen gets small scratches no matter how careful I am. And that drives me insane. I took a really close look at my original steamdeck with etched glass and not one single scratch. That’s after a year of heavy use and even dropping it multiple times. To me, that’s one of the biggest benefits
