I am trying to download and play Fortnite on my steam deck. So far I have Heroic Launcher which is able to launch the game but not the anti-cheat it needs to successfully play it. I looked in the games file but it wont let me open it without needing another thing to run it. The file also has a windows icon over and I’m guessing that means I need to find another way. If I could get some answers it would be appreciated.
Moonlight works great. I don’t experience any input lag.
dual boot your steam deck with windows
Try this guide. It’s for Fall Guys but since it’s an Epic Game I assume it will work for Fornite as well? Still waiting on my SteamDeck OLED to ship so can’t confirm myself.
Not possible, Fortnite does not support Linux, more specifically the anti-cheat. Therefore, you’d need to install windows, you should’ve checked on Google before buying a deck.
That’s not how this works.
The game developer and the anti-cheat provider have to explicitly allow the game to run under Proton. Epic Games has refused to do so for Fortnite.
Remember that anti-cheat systems are there to make sure that the runtime environment of the game has not been tempered with. Running the game on Linux with Proton is, as far as an anti-cheat system is aware, a completely different runtime environment than running on Windows.
If the developer doesn’t explicitly allow it, and the anti-cheat system does its job, there is nothing you can do to run the game under Linux.
Fortnite is such a game.
Fortnite doesn’t run on SteamOS. Like, literally Epic refuses to support it on SteamOS/Linux. The only way to get it to run natively on Steam Deck is to boot into Windows and run the game that way.
Personally, I would recommend just boycotting Epic and all the games they’ve developed instead. Just a terrible piece of garbage company.
