Jeep Grand Cherokee 2020. Was supposed to get an oil change at 38,500 miles. I’m at 43,500 miles and I’m about to take a 400 mile round trip drive. Can I wait until I get back from the trip?
Get your oil changed ASAP, you’re already halfway through another oil change interval.
Something tells me you’re gonna go ahead and make that 400 mile trip regardless of what people tell you.
Price of a oil change $50-$150 Price of a new motor because you used and abused the last one 6k-15k
Kinda steep. Who’s your oil change guy
At least you’re taking good care of it
Any idea what type of oil was used on the last change? Look on the sticker, it may be listed. Some oils are rated for higher change intervals, but I don’t really care for that. Also, the type of driving you do makes a huge difference. Multiple short trips vs longer highway speed commutes makes a difference too. Obviously, check your oil and make sure it isn’t low.
Aren’t pentastars known for burning oil?
Sure. Is it recommended? No The fact you’ve gone that far over tells me your engine isn’t going to last
You just did 5,000 miles of engine damage. What’s another 400 miles? Do you think the engine is new again when you change the oil? The engine damage remains, it isn’t reversible. Just don’t be surprised when it needs the engine replaced and you wonder why anything could have happened to it.
That’s an asinine comment, if he did 5000 miles of engine damage he should buy a lottery ticket.
Running a full oil change interval and then going 5,000 miles more did engine damage. Because I can guarantee this isn’t the first time the oil wasn’t changed on time. It also wasn’t checked and topped off during the over extended interval. Afraid to even ask what oil was used.
Fuck it, send it. What’s the worst that can happen, right? If anything bad happens just buy a new car.
If you used good synthetic oil and mostly did highway miles you are fine. I would get it done soon after though.
Oil was supposed to be changed at 38k, now your a 43k. At what mileage was your oil changed? If it was changed at like 35k and synthetic oil was used then your fine. If it was changed at 28k, stop driving that car and get the oil changed asap.
Maybe. If you’re going off of the windshield sticker or print out of services from last visit, they probably tell you to come back after 3000 miles. What does the manual say for oil change interval? If you’re within that, no sweat.
Kinda depends when u did the last one
I would change the oil as soon as possible. If your shops and dealerships are packed with appointments, simply do it yourself. You just need a container to catch the oil, 1 wrench that fits your plug, a new filter which is less than 15 bucks, and enough oil that the disptick reads a normal level. 1 trip to the store, maybe 50 for oil, filter and a cheap wrench and 5 minutes under the car and you’re done. Sorry if I sound patronizing, but premature engine wear isn’t worth the convenience of simply putting it off for another day
