Hi,

I’m considering buying an S23 Ultra as I’m seeing some good deals online. To give you an idea, I don’t upgrade my phones often. I’m still using my OnePlus 7 from 2019, and my general rule is to not spend more than €800 on a smartphone. I’m seeing some good deals online, including one for €915, so I’m considering extending my budget a bit. I’m really tempted.

However, I’ve seen the Qualcomm announcements about the SD 8 gen 3 last month, along with a Xiaomi 14 Pro review. I am now wondering if I should get an S23 Ultra now, or wait until January or so and buy an S24/S24+ for about the same price. The idea is to keep the device for as long as possible, so having an extra year of software updates would be appreciated. With that said, I have many uses for my phone, but the two most important factors are battery life and photo quality (I just went on a safari and got disappointed by the OnePlus 7 picture quality when shooting from distance).

Thanks

We don’t know anything for sure about the S24 series and the SD 8 Gen 3 chip. Could be good, could be as bad as the S22 series.

We know everything about the S23 series, it is excellent for energy efficiency, battery life and it is powerful enough for everything you will want to throw at it.

Though, I would say that if you are serious about photography, don’t use a smartphone.
