I’m just jumping into the hand-help space but with the release of the Steam deck OLED and the £100 reduction in the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme price I’m have difficulty deciding between the SD and the ROG.

I have Xbox game pass so will be duel booting the SD with windows and will also be using whichever one I go for for emulation. I have not used Linux before except Unraid so would have to learn.

Any advice either way would help, thanks.

If you care about battery life, trackpads, expandable SD card, integrated motion controls, OLED get a Deck

If you care about graphics, framerate, playing any game you want, easy to mod games etc, less input lag, full size SSD mod, light and smaller, 1080p VRR, better D Pad get ROG Ally

I owned both and preferred Deck

Wanting to use it with game pass is probably the best reason to go with a windows handheld. That and connecting with play anywhere games in the Xbox app.

I have a dual boot setup with the Deck, but its not a real smooth experience and requires a lot more hands on work to get it in decent shape.
