It’s my first Steam Deck so I’m trying to figure out what “normal” means for this thing. Just got a 64GB refurb, turned it on, and the fan was blaring from the time I turned it on to just idling at the Library menu with no games running.
What’s even weirder: If I turn OFF “Enable Updated Fan Control”, the fan gets a bit quieter (still no highs or lows, just the same constant fan volume no matter what the device is doing.) Everything I’ve read about this setting suggests that this is the opposite of what should happen.
Flipped between all three OS branches and it makes no difference.
Is this normal?
no, obviously it shouldnt. I’d try reinstall, maybe bios too. contact steam support. I doubt it is a HW issue and you save yourself the hassle of RMA
Hoping it isn’t hardware, but a factory reset made no difference. The BIOS is currently the latest version, but is there something I should do to restore it?
What are the temperatures? Sounds like the cooler isn’t seated properly.
There is a 30 second window after waking from sleep that the fan will not spin. During that time, the temp is roughly 40-43c. Then the fan kicks up to a steady 7300~ RPM and the temp is roughly 37c.
Probably get ahold of valve, doesn’t sound like a temperature issue.
