When i had my ds lite with a flashcart back around 09/10, i remember browsing the gbatemp forums and regular threads asking if the DS would ever get an N64 emulator.
There was one piece of hardware shown off called the (Pandora,)[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandora_(computer)] that was afaik one of the earlier gaming handheld PCs and definitely made me interested in the potential of handheld computing as phones and similar were improving at a rapid pace.
Steam deck to me feels like a fully realized and optimized version of what kid-me would have wanted. Maybe even better than i could have expected with many AAA titles now playable or verified for steam deck and local game streaming to utilize with a good gaming PC.
