My wife needs a new phone after dropping her nth Samsung phone for the 20th time. We really like the functionality of Samsung phones, but it seems none of them can survive being dropped repeatedly (crazy, eh?). What I’m looking for is a phone/case combo that can survive a nuclear war. Speaking of which, since my wife is female, it should not look like an armored personnel carrier and it should not weigh more than 8 oz (226g). It must have a large screen (>= 6.7"), support dual sim (one eSim, one physical is OK), and have a good camera. It does not need to be a current model, but shouldn’t be more than a few years’ old. Any suggestions or tips?

Accidentally swam with mine (s22) for around 3 minutes. Got out of the water immediately when I realized my f up. Towel dried my phone, switched it off, swam for another 20 mintues, and went home and dunked my phone into a sack of rice.
As of late, phone is still working…
The S22 is rated IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 min).
If she needs a big screen, I would go with the S23+, I have an S23 in a Mous brand magsafe compatible case with a bamboo back and have dropped my phone at least a dozen times and only cracked one Whitestone ez apply glass screen protector in the process…
DO NOT go for the ultra. Curved screens mean exposed screen that cannot be protected by a lip around the screen edge.
If she likes pop-sockets, I HIGHLY recommend their magsafe base, because you can easily just pop it off the back of the case for QI charging, or using a magsafe compatible phone mount in the car.

Yup they do, but the curve means that edge has no case lip to protect it , leaving a high stress fracture area exposed to knocks, it’s a design flaw of the waterfall edge as a concept.

In terms of cases I cannot recommend Otter Box cases enough. I’ve been using them since I was an iPhone Andy and they even kept those flimsy phones in one piece. The case I have on my phone has taken an incredible fucking beating for the past few years to the point where I’ve broken of chunks of it and my phone is still unscathed when I drop it.
Look up the Samsung XCover phones. They’re designed to be really durable to handle job sites and abuse.
Godamn their rugged phones have push to talk? I missed that craze. Cool that it’s still around.
You might want to consider an X Cover instead of an S series or investing in a durable case and screen armor not just some cheap screen protector you glue on yourself.
I would definitely consider watching some Flossy Carter video for any case shopping needs. I don’t believe he’s made one for Samsung phones, but most of the cases he reviews for phones such as the Pixel or iPhone also make cases for Samsung phones.
He makes case reviews on Samsung S series cases as well.
All the flagship models would probably work.
I’m also a clumsy user. Probably drops it like 5x a month on average. The case I use is something that looks like this. I don’t know the particular brand, but my case was sold by the salesperson from Samsung’s official store where I bought my phone, but it’s not an official Samsung case. Then I just added a thick tempered glass and so far my phone is still good.
An s23 ultra is 6.8 inch great cameras get a spigen tough armor and a screen protector and it will become a tank
The Spigen looks good but is 3.5 ounces. That increases the weight of the phone by nearly 50%.

you need to decide almost indestructible phone (like rugged armor case) or a neat beautiful phone (transparent or cool looking case)
we all live in the bounds of the physical laws
also just being careful would help most, I mean I drop my phone sometimes but it depends on the ground and when I’m outside I take extra care

Get :
(1) a silicone casing: it’s light and offers more protection all round. If you’re going to slam into a wall at high speed, would you rather your protection be a thick cushion or a thick piece of metal?
(2) multiple UV glass screen protectors. They will crack in place of the screen. Takes just minutes to change it when it does.
I have dropped my phones much more than 20 times a year, haven’t had a cracked screen for 6 years. The last time 6 years ago i had a cracked screen was when I removed the cracked screen protector, then dropped the phone again on tarmac before I could put on a new screen protector.

If this is the normal thing…consider getting the XCover Pro Samsung make…word of warning…it only have a 64gb model.
My wife drops her Samsung phones all the time. Never had one break. She’s using flagship stuff. Like s21 s22 etc. Small case. Rubber.
They are all very robust having an S phone since the s7 edge, always using an adverage amazon case for a maximum 25$, drop all of my phone multiple time from different height and never even had a scrach or anything .
Get an s23+ and an OtterBox commuter (generic or name brand same thing) or something like that.
I just wanted to recommend Velvet Caviar cases, they are cute and tbh I drop my phone all the time and it’s always fine and of course a nice tempered glass. I have the S21 Ultra :)
Looks good. Which tempered glass do you use. I find that some of them don’t fit well with cases.
To be honest, I always used tempered glass in my devices, but when I got the S21U it was very weird and the fingerprint unlock wouldn’t work great with them, right now I’m using a film. Like a transparent vynil sticker and my screen has been good even though I drop my phone all the time when I’m getting out of the car 😆
