Hello, I have a 2020 CX5 Signature Turbo. I enjoy driving it to the fullest. My family also likes it. One of the features we think sets apart Mazda is the console control - the rotor and touch less option.

Having said that, we are in need of a larger ride, preferably 7 seater. So our go to move is CX9 considering that it will have the same console control. But I would like to get an idea from CX9 owners how they are enjoying the ride and drive, if there are particular year/trims that should be avoided, etc. I am aware that cx9 will come with added mpg. Also, not considering cx90 since it’s brand new and I don’t have the budget for it. I am just considering used cx9, but if you have suggestions for other 7 seaters, please do.

Thanks for any suggestions.

It’s a great car. We got one with the bench seat and put three car seats in the 2nd row. The third row stays folded down almost all of the time for cargo/dog transport. When the kids are older they can use the third row, but for the time when they all needed help with buckles, this was good for us. If I only had one or two kids I might have the captain chairs.

Average mpg is about 19 over 20k miles. Easy to get about 25 in highway driving even with 5 people, 2 dogs, and a full cargo shell on top. Ours is AWD. This is noticeably better than the previous generation with the V6, we were averaging 15 mpg in that, and never got over 21 on a flat highway cruise.

I went from a 2017 CX-5 to a 2020 CX-9. I love the extra space, even though I drive along 99% of the time, and it feels more luxury/premium than my CX-5 did. I’d recommend a 2021+ if you can, mainly because of the nicer 10" screen, but I have zero complaints about my 2020.
