Was this a result of road debris or internal damage? Best guesses!! Car had 122k miles but engine damage has definitely occurred.

Almost definitely internal damage. Broke a rod and it sawed its way through the pan.
Its probably too late, but I think there are recalls and class action settlements for that engine.
Congrats on getting a new free engine. Kia was sued for this since a lot of KIA/Hyundai were affected:

Supposedly the local mechanic inspected w a boroscope and the conrods/etc are still intact?
That’s just Kia quality!! Wouldn’t fix that shit be on to another car!
