I currently have max spec 2020 M5 comp but I’m on the fence on swapping it out for something a little more driver - focused.
I love the power, the V8, the looks, and the M5 performance Ti exhaust is amazing. However, I find the steering a little too soccer mom and I never use the rear seat. I originally got it over 2 door cars as I can fit a car seat in the but my son has only been in the back seat once. I daily the car in the summer but I definitely do not need the rear seat.
The replacement car I’m eyeing up would be a pretty nice spec M4 comp with the carbon buckets. I’m not a mod person but I’d do something with the exhaust to make it angry. The stock one sounds like a vacuum cleaner to me. I plan on driving a new M4 to see what’s what but looking for advice from people who’ve driven both the current gen M5s and M4s.
Another car on my radar is a Cayman GT4 or GTS 4.0. The former would be a little harder to live with but this is a 3rd car for me so it doesn’t need to be very practical.
If you want to keep the V8 and get something more driver focused boy do I have an answer for you.
There’s really no reason to get m4 over the flat6 caymans other than for the space or for drag racing… I was really disappointed with the g80’s steering when I tested one over a year ago, although the engine felt great and it really doesn’t sound as bad as I expected it to lol. Even the zf8 didn’t feel bad compared to dual clutch transmissions but the car is just too heavy and lacking feel…
M4 won’t whet your appetite if you’re looking for a more engaging driving experience. Either go big and get a M3 CS if you want to stick with BMW, or look hard at the CT5-V.
Between the 2, I’d go with the CT5-V. It’s a fantastic sedan, and had I not gotten the M5 CS, the Blackwing would’ve been my choice.
