I’m getting mixed answers online. Something tells me it’s not possible and probably a dumb question. Do they make devices that stay in the obd port that allows functionality like this? Or would I need an aftermarket starter or something?
Or is it not possible? The only remote thing this truck has is lock/unlock.
I bet its easier to add a remote start on older cars than newer. Search up viper remote start. I have not tried it out.
I’ve been a professional installer for 24 years. Remote starts can be installed on almost any fuel injected vehicle. I drive an ‘04 Ram with a 4.7L-I’ve had remote start on in for over 12yrs now.
I have an 89 bronco 2 that i think would be really funny to put remote start in, as is otherwise stock. In your professional opinion, would that be a waste of money or funny?
It’s possible, it’s not as simple as plugging in to the obd port, call whoever you like as a mechanic and ask about a remote start system, they should be able to guide you
Yes they are available. Keep two things in mind, they will have to hack apart your factory wiring to spice it in, and if it fails somewhere down the road it has the potential to leave you stranded.
“Hack apart” Isn’t very accurate or genuine at all. It’s honestly not that hard if you have the schematics.
Absolutely. There’s lots of aftermarket remote start modules that just need to get wired in and come with the fobs. If you’re good with wiring do it yourself, if not then get a shop to install.
Yes pretty easy to do. You’ll need a remote starter of your choice and a bypass module to handle your immobilizer. Whether it be compostar or Fortin or directed, they will all work
Only the grey keys need an immobilizer.
Yes you can buy a kit here the proof:

Ask the installer if the truck will turn off if put into gear without the key? Otherwise, you could lose your truck.
We always interface to the brake switch to shut down the remote start…
