And to be clear, the two issues were:

1. a design flaw in the accelerator pedal that allowed it to become entrapped by floor mats
2. pedals manufactured by CTS that could “stick.” Toyota failed to notify NHTSA of this sticking defect for 4 months, which is what led to fines and the settlement.
