Many issues are occurring such as
-audio not working
-mic not working
-SD card not being recognized
-200/400 mhz bug
-docking issues
-reverting the update deleting SD card files from some posts I’ve seen
-some games performing worse or some not working at all
Probably recommend just holding off on this update and wait an update or two. I understand this update comes with the SMT fix and Color Saturation and better gpu performance but these bugs are pretty big negatives.
I love how community downvote these concerns to hell. TBH my excitement changed to disappointment. Valve pickled this update for almost a year. Obviously (now) waiting for release of second SD revision, only to release it suddenly from preview straight to stable (no beta lol) ignoring several issues (you can check on their tracker). I used to Blizzard doing things like that all the time but not Valve.
It’s so cringe too scrolling down and seeing 5 posts at 0 with like 10+ comments all saying that the new update is being buggy is fine and not acknowledging things like the microSD card wiping bug, and conveniently omitting that Valve skipped the beta channel entirely
Really they skipped it? I haven’t noticed much problems accpet for desktop mode being bugy. I used too have shortcuts and now they are buggy and won’t show up. The performances have been improved from what I noticed . The SD card thing is a serious .
Preview is the OS beta channel. This may be confusing to some, so let me explain.
First of all we need to separate SteamOS into the client (Steam itself) and the OS. Both have their own branches.
The client has both the stable and the beta channel.
The OS has the following channels:
- Stable
- Stable release candidate
- Beta
- Beta candidate
- Main
You can see these separate channel pickers when enabling developer options and the advanced update channels option there.
By default SteamOS simplifies the channel picker into 3 preset options:
- Stable which is the stable client and OS
- Beta which is the Steam beta client on the current stable OS
- Preview which is both the beta client and beta OS
This means that the default beta option in SteamOS does in fact not include any OS beta. Only the Steam client beta.
The preview channel or otherwise known as SteamOS beta channel has had 3.5 in beta for over 2 months. Updates have trickled down in from channels in the order beta candidate -> beta -> stable release candidate -> Stable. This release has been through 3 levels of testing channels before landing in stable.
I don’t mind the opinion that 3.5 may have been undercooked to some as they indeed held on to a deadline with the OLED launch. I just want to correct the claim about a lack of beta.
My audio is no longer working when im in docked mode. and by that I mean the speakers manually activated to play sound from speakers and not output from external device.
Really gotta question how companies test their software / hardware before releasing
The only huge issue I have had is the desktop task icons are bugged and some games run worse than the last version.
Restarting while docked makes tv go “no signal to be seen here move along”. I have to undock, restart again, dock.
I had that issue, then I changed a performance setting while in a game. It made a bad sound, the screen turned off and now it’s always black…! My dock is effectively bricked!
Anyone having games crash? Outlast is crashing for me after about 17 mins of gameplay at 1080p docked.
Issues for me after patch.
Warhammer Darktide does not work.
Some of my games have audio cracking
Sometimes when I connect to my monitor the screen bugs out, disconnecting and connecting again seems to fix it.
Darktide was the first issue I encountered. Constant hard crashes to reboot/verifying install.
I’ve had some docking issues.
The deck seems to “lose” the ability to output at 1080p/60hz after sleeping. Restarting doesn’t always work. Going hand held, restarting, then redocking has a decent success rate though.
In desktop mode, while docked I’ve had two half-freezes where nothing but the mouse responds, then after a couple of minutes I see some artifacts on screen and it goes black. Forcing me to reboot it.
These started after updating, and putting the deck to sleep. I’m going to try completely turning it off when I stop, maybe that helps from here on.
My SD card isn’t recognized and now desktop mode consistently freezes and dolphin crashes EVERYTIME so I can’t even view it mount my card
Audio Glitches and Crackling on every game since OS 3.5 update. VERY ANNOYING!!!
Having the issue (while in stable) with the screen dimming out or parts of the screen dim out (get vertical black lines in different parts of the screen) and then finally goes to a solid black screen (backlight is on as it is lit but completely black) …until it finally goes to fully black. You can hear the buttons and noise of moving around the menus but no screen. Did not occur on the previous stable release and it stops when I go to the Beta release.
Was worried it was the screen cutting out but it didn’t do it at all in the previous stable version and doesn’t do it at all in the Beta channel.
Audio glitches in most games. Also some games working worse than before the update… Especially Carmageddon Max Damage. Before update it ran butter smooth 60fps with medium/high settings. Now it struggles to maintain 50fps with the same settings and stutters a lot.
Hi everyone!
I updated my deck with 3.5.5 stable (from 3.5.5 preview version) and screen in some games, like Darkest Dungeon 1, Rails and Catacombs and other strategy 2d games became very dark after I launch them.If I do not touch controls for 3-5 seconds, brightness becomes correct again (as it used to be before).
Does anyone expereience the same issue? Any way to resolve it?
Yesterday I installed 3.5.7 preview version but no change in screen brightness while gaming. My dock won’t work on 3.5.5 or 3.5.7, very frustrating.
Audio crackling after exiting certain games fixes after reboot from deck audio. Bluetooth headset no longer works for audio. Went to desktop mode to enable and adjust restore to previous state as it would enter gaming mode off again. Had to re-pair the device as it would not connect at all. It now connects yet game audio doesn’t work and only volume up and down made a sound on the headset then even that went back to the deck audio. Other than that all games working and the new features are nice.
