I called customer service and it’s a known issue. In fact if you have one that has a flashing led when it’s plugged in even if it’s not from the update they would probably swap it if you told them that was the problem. Not sure what model they are going to replace it with but it’s better than buying a new one.
Same thing happened to me. I have a Gen 2 that is less than two years old and it’s completely bricked now. Took it to an Apple store and they said I have to either pay for a replacement or buy a new one. I’ll be doing none of those things since this is 100% their fault
Started a twitter thread if anyone wants to post their experience on there. Maybe that’ll get Apple’s attention
ATV4K Gen 1 - Yesterday lunchtime all good, last night went to watch something, no response form the remote, well it turned on, but then nothing. Tried controlling from my phone, worked, but very sluggish, and couldn’t ‘select’ anything. Google’d it, pressed the key combination to reset the remote, it restarted the ATV (?). Same. Pressed the combination to restart the ATV, it restarted, but to an image of the Bluetooth symbol and iPhone. Got a notification on my iPhone about an ATV in recovery and generating a code, entered the code into the ATV, it started loading, then back to the Bluetooth/phone image. Same thing again. Unplugged it, from then on, when connected all i get was white flashing lights (like 12 flashes, then a double-flash). Made a Genius bar appt, took it in this morning. Guy takes it out the back, comes back after 10 mins and says “yeah, cant even get it into the recovery mode, so nothing we can do to fix it”. I was just about to shove Reddit at him and argue, when he followed up with “so i will order you a new one, and we will cover it, as there is no port so neither you or we can restore it.” Apparently it will be here in a few days, week tops. They are great at my local store. (Basingstoke, UK)
Good to hear.
