So yesterday my car acted really funny, and long story short, it seems that it’s most likely a water pump that has failed. My car has driven 230.000 kilometers (or about 143.000 miles) and it’s been serviced regularly. However, no one ever bothered to mention that pumps don’t last as long as the car and have already exceeded their life expectancy by a very large margin. 3 months ago, the fuel pump failed. The car has not been driven that long since then. So, without fail (no pun intended), two pumps have failed at twice their life expectancy almost to a T. I’m pretty pissed that no one ever mentioned this, AND because I never knew. And when the fuel pump broke, i looked it up and had found even then that pumps aren’t supposed to last forever, but i didn’t think about the other pumps, and I could have prevented another failure. So, just to be sure, is it normal for these pumps to just fail when they’ve been used this much, or is it suspicious? Is preventative pump replacement normal for this kind of mileage?
And a bonus question: Am I wrong to think that I should probably also replace the oil pump? I don’t want to pay for the damage that causes when it inevitably breaks too.
