I’m wondering how to use a voltmeter to find a problem in a wiring harness of my car. My passenger headlight turns dim and then turns off after a few seconds. Before that passenger headlight issues arose, my driver side would take multiple flickers to turn on. Also a month ago my car had several accessories running and as I applied the brakes while having the turn signal on, my car did shut off. Seems like there’s a parasitic draw happening somewhere and I am a rookie when it comes to electrical work on vehicles.

I’ve never used a voltmeter besides probing my battery terminals and alternator casing and I’d like to know how to fix my electrical issues in my car before paying a pro to do it. I’m really avoiding to undo any of the wiring harness at it is brittle as can be.

(2001 Lexus IS300)

Thanks in advance

You might start by finding and tightening any ground connection you can find. Google, see if you can find a diagram to locate them.

You are about to learn that electrical problems can be the worst because there are so many possibilities.

    Good luck.
