I’m not sure how Wayland works, but while I wait for the OLED to ship I’m curious. Does anyone know if this 40/80 mode will reduce input lag vs 40/40? The way I understood it, Wayland has a fixed 3-frame buffer, so will that be improved with the screen updating 80 times a second or is it based on the GPU only generating 40 new frames a second? I’m curious how the data pipeline works…does the GPU send a duplicate of each frame to the frame buffer, or does it only output 40fps and some other element duplicates those frames after the fact?

If the framerate is equally matching the refresh rate then that shouldn’t really change anything since the timing should be identical in either. The higher refresh rate will really only help decrease latency if you’re giving it enough frames to pick up on them faster. It’s always nice to have better incremental options for framerates though. Like having the steam menus be 80FPS but the game 40, that’s pretty awesome! So I’d say it’s worth it for simple conveniences like that.
