I know steam just released a refresh of their handheld console, but I’m really disappointed especially because of how many improvements there are. It would have been better to update to the new z1 architecture, I know they don’t want to step on the toes of people who already bought one. But to me that’s just an excuse, I really don’t think with the man power valve has it would have been difficult to update the architecture.

What are your thoughts? should valve update to 8 cores 16 threads, or at least more GPU CU’s and if not why?

For me personally I want to wait for one to completely replace my main desktop.

It would have been better to update to the new z1 architecture,

Nah. The Z1E underwhelmed immensely in the real world after its marketing hype. As it turns out, chugging 2x the power is a nonstarter in a handheld device because it basically tethers you to a wall plug. If you limit the TDP to Deck levels, it performs the same as the Deck, or actively worse the lower you go.

Valve said no chip on the market delivers the performance they want and the battery life they need, and given how the ROG Ally and Legion Go have shaken out so far, I think they’ve got a point.
