He was seen as England’s next big GK and long term replacement for Seaman at Arsenal and England. Did win the League/Cup double with us. But only made 12 apps and was sold on to Everton the season after.
The man played for Man City when they were during their first run of success in the PL and didn’t play a minute. He only played 60 times for Everton over five seasons and 58 with Ipswich when he went back for two seasons. Even played a season with West Ham and didn’t play a minute.
He’s now GK coach under Pep at Man City. Don’t the coaching staff win medals too, so his cabinet must be full with them now.
Still traumatised by the Charlton 4-2. Was so excited to have managed to get North Bank tickets only to see him punch the ball into his own net. If I remember correctly some of the other goals were his fault too.
Richard Wright.
Stands out specifically to me because my family has a lot of Ipswich fans in it and they were fuming that we signed him.
Then it turned out that he thrived for Ipswich because they played with a really deep backline and when he came to player for us he got exposed.
