Hi, so I have a 1985 el Camino. When I turn off the engine it leaves a puddle underneath my transmission. I’m not very car savvy and don’t know much about them so just wanted to know what I’m getting into or what it could be before I take it to the mechanic. It’s been like this for a decent amount of time it’ll shift well so I’m not thinking it’s a big deal.

Puddle of what, oil, coolant, or transmission fluid?

If it’s oil the rear main seal is likely blown which for a vehicle that old is no surprise. It will need to be replaced.

Transmission fluid is a leaking pan, coolant that far back is a heater core or crack in the block to the water jacket.

I suspect you are leaking transmission fluid. I’ll bet it is the front pump seal. No way to know without someone taking a look.
