I have both a Steam Deck and a ROG Ally, and bought one of these to try it out to see if it could replace the Ally for me.

Not a chance. It’s too big, the button placements feel bad, the sticks feel terrible (too slippery, with huge dead zones) the fan is very noisy even when not gaming, and the lack of VRR on the screen legitimately hurts it. Everything looks so juddery.

I recommend a Steam Deck OLED to most people, or an Ally for people that want the extra power and play plugged in most of the time like I do (in bed, when traveling and bored in my hotel room at night, etc)

Never had an ally but I got a legion go and sold my steam deck and don’t regret it. Yes it has issues software wise but so did they ally at launch. They released a road map and are working on fixing all the biggest complaints. VRR would have been great but locking fps is fine for me. Performance is great and the big screen is awesome. 800p with integer scaling look really good and 1600p for content viewing is perfect. The build in stand is something I use every single day when playing games or watching content. Also the removable controllers are really nice because I can basically use it like tablet and I have been wanting to buy a tablet for a while but now I don’t need to.
