That is very unusual. Mind are 20+ years old and barely have any rusting. Looks chemical related
You just gotta put a bit of elbow grease in and clean em up but they’re still better then the cheesy plastic sheathed ones that split and fragment off when your trying to take a set off to put winters on vice versa
Do you use washing detergents that contain chlorides? That could cause this.
It’s a common occurrence with the OEM lug bolts…just get the Titanium ones from World Motorsports , won’t ever get the rust again
Had a 993 , don’t know the material of my skrews in the rims, but they degenerate as if they were aluminium, they did not rust but the disappeared like sand or like Alufraß. Very strange and a miracle that I didn’t loose a Rim at top speed
These bolts from temu. Lol
I’ve had a 997 and a 987 and the lug nuts on both cars rusted. Not to this degree, but still.
My friend has a brrrzzz and he needed a special kit to break his lugs/wheel hub assy loose and broke them - he neglected them
Working at an Porsche dealer, never seen a Porsche with rusted OEM lug bolts. And I’ve worked on plenty of 997s, 996’s, 993’s, and even 964’s.
DEFINITELY not factory.
Unfortunately all Porsche cars have lug nuts which is unacceptable for this price.
Phosphate-heavy wheel cleaner, anyone?
Why would anyone get phosphater near their car?
I bought a used 2007 997.1 last month and the lugs on it look like they spent the last decade at the bottom of the sea. Going to be the first thing I replace.
looks rusted
I think it can be either. I have lug nut replacements and a mix of OEMs on my 987 that have rusted somewhat too.
