Tried searching everywhere but get caught up with gears grinding… The actual problem is that the car drives fine but in some gears if you leave your hand on the stick, as you do between changes, and you pull or push the stick without actually changing gears, it’s like a rough metal to metal sound.

The gears seem fine but it’s like the stick “housing” has worn and allowing the shaft to touch metal.

Is this going to get serious?

I do recall one time whilst driving uphill in 4th that it made the sound except i wasn’t touching the stick.

Ideas? Gearbox dying? It’s a Scenic RX4 4x4.

Cheers in advance for any insight. It’s been like this since I got it.

Why would you think it’s not the transmission/synchros? You cause premature wear to the synchros when you rest your hand on the shifter.

Driving schools teach their students that it’s bad to leave one’s hand on the gear shift.

    Now you know why.
