For those with brand new vehicles that did an oil change at the 1000mile mark, did you reset the maintenance light (or whatever the equivalent of that is in a new vehicle?) Wondering if I should do that at the 1000 mark or just wait until 5000 and do it then? Thanks!

If you do an oil change at 1000 miles please send a sample to Blackstone Labs and post the results. Really curious of the metal content in the oil.

We had a 2015 Corolla, which never had a single mechanical issue. Unfortunately, it was totaled last month. Anyway, we did oil changes once per year, which was between 7,500 and 8,500 miles.

Is there something with newer Corollas, or newer Toyotas in general, that require oil changes more often than 10,000 miles, or annually, whichever comes first, as was the case for our 2005 Corolla?

    Thanks for any feedback!

There’s a school of thought that setting the normal oil changes at 10k miles keeps costs low for Toyota during the free ToyotaCare servicing, which lasts for 2 years or 25k miles.

If they required oil changes every 5k (the severe schedule) they would have to do 5 oil changes during ToyotaCare, but now they only have to do two.

Many people have some or all of the aspects of the severe schedule (short trips, city driving, gridlock, towing, off-road, etc) and should be doing oil changes every 5k. Personally I do it every 6 months or 6k± miles (myself, so it only costs about $25 with Costco synthetic).

IMO the 10k oil changes are fine if you plan to keep the car for 5-8 years and sell it before it hits 150,000 miles. But if you plan to keep it for 250k or more, change the oil a little more often.

I did 10k oils changes for the first 120k miles and now I’ve switched it to 7500 mile intervals. I’m at 191k miles and still runs great. Never changed the CVT trans fluid though

There is no reason for changing oil at 1,000 miles.

Toyota has said that it’s completely fine to change oil at 10,000 miles. This has been the norm for over a decade now.

I did an oil change at 1000 bc it was free with my car, but then waited until 17k (yes ik that’s like really bad) and surprisingly they said my oil was just getting bad lol
