Choose an old Thinkpad from 2016-2018 (very least might be 2014), all of these are way better than those two for standard laptop usage (minus heavily video editing).

I would say Asus. Got an ROG laptop from Asus and it is 10 years old. Still going strong but will be forced to give it up at the end of 2025 when security for Windows 10 stops. I cannot upgrade to Windows 11 because I am missing a tpm module.

If you only need basic stuff this is alright. The Lenovo is the better deal. If you have a bigger budget, going to the used ThinkPad market would get you a reasonable deal. Anything gen 8 cpu or higher. A battery swap will renew it to like new.

Get a 2ndhand laptop if thats your budget… Build your trust in people a little. Though it is recommended to do research. A LOT of them. Stalk their profile, selling histories, ratings, the laptop issues that it may or had happened to others etc.

Also if you really paranoid about it, buy it only f2f so you can test it 1sthand. I bought a phone 2ndhand and f2f. It was cheap for it spec and in 9/10 condition. Only some scratches on places that would 100% scratch when used for a long time.

What do you need it for?

If you want to crack the enigma code you might have enough power on one of those.

Neither of these are very good at all if I were you I would look into getting a used laptop that is more powerful.
