Hi, never owned a car before.

If I purchase a used car here in Quebec that happens to have some visible rust (so there’s certainly more that I can’t see) and if it’s cheap enough, can I just decide to not care? What’s the worst that could happen by deciding to not do anything about it?

If however I wanted to make sure it didn’t get any worse, without going through the trouble of removing the existing rust, what should I do then?

Just curious

You’ll also want to make sure the rust isn’t in anything structural or you could risk your car breaking or becoming unsafe.

Depending on how long you intend to keep the car and if the rust isn’t in anything structural, you’d probably be fine driving around with rusty bits on your car. But you would want to check regularly to make sure the structure isn’t compromised.
