I have a 2015 Honda Odyssey, 67k miles. Our mechanic did a drain and fill on the transmission fluid last year (55K miles). I didn’t keep great notes and not sure if this was due on the Honda maintenance minder schedule or recommended by the shop.
They’re recommending another drain and fill, based on fluid color, and I’m surprised that this is necessary again one year/12k miles later. Google gives me lots of conflicting opinions on transmission flush vs. drain/fill. I’m trying to decide if it makes more sense to do another drain and fill, or go all-in for a flush. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!
Drain and fill will only change about half the fluid in an automatic transmission, as the other half is trapped in the torque converter and other areas.
If you’re willing to spend the money for a flush, go for it, that’s the best option, but not the only correct choice. If you want to save some money, do the drain and fill. Both will work.
You’re already doing more maintenance to your transmission than most people who still somehow drive without too many issues, so dont worry either way.
