Hello. I appreciate every case is individual but some insight is going to be very helpful.
Make: Peugeot Model: 2008 Year: 2019 Mileage: 65000 miles
I’ve just picked up the car from the main dealer after hearing a whirring noise when the car first starts.
They state that the timing belt is worn and perishing, and needs replacing. They also state that it MAY have damaged the engine.
The timing belt definitely needs replacing (£1000) and possibly a new engine (£ = god only knows).
My question is whether a timing belt should be worn this much in <4 years and whether this is a production/mechanical issue (and therefore cost covered by Peugeot) rather than traditional wear and tear (my cost to bear).
Hope this is clear and happy to add more detail as needed.
TIA
You’ll probably have to check with a dealer. Timing belts can be a maintenance item.
