I’m glad I was able to get this board in exchange for my corroded Z690 Formula, and it’s about what I expected from ASUS.
The absolute bare minimum to prevent corrosion. And zero effort in making something functional and advantageous in cooling, which is what water cooling anything should provide.
Asus has become fucking awful these past few years, they’re turning into the Alienware of the DIY world. All marketing, no substance.
They’ve always been like this. The competition is pretty much the same, I have no good word for MSI, Asrock, Gigabyte, Bioshit… All marketing, nickel & diming for couple extra cents of margin here and there.
Asus makes very few, specific models, with high quality and features every now and then but most of what they sell is utter garbage.
It would blow the mind of someone 10 years ago but at this point Asrock might be the least bad. At least the Taichi Lite showed they understand people want better features with less gaudy BS.

My current rig uses a 13 year old Z75 AsRock mobo that has had zero issues besides a RAM slot failing. I dunno why people say they’re bad.

Additional cooling for the VRM was only needed for the high end HEDT CPUs when overclocking. Even then, it wasn’t always needed, depending on the platform.
For mainstream platforms, and especially with higher end motherboards, the VRMs are overbuilt to the point where they can supply several times the wattage required.
Copper plated aluminum??? Seriously Asus? How could the engineers at ASUS not know that coolant flow inside the block will slowly strip away the coating copper and expose the aluminum? Do they really need a few bucks more margin by going this route?
I mean, just copper plating on aluminium alone is asking for galvanic corrosion issues.
I’m sure the engineers knew, but yeah they’ll be trying to save cents. Gigabyte made the very same mistake on several of their Waterforce blocks for a couple years. There was a whole slew of users reporting stripped material and corrosion in their loops.
Don’t worry, ASUS is already working on the Z890 Formula, which will get a premium block made from the finest pig iron.
