Hello Looking for options to control garage via smartthings. Had myq for a while but it’s not working with smartthings not with the workarounds I had in place.
What the other poster listed will work but its not legit in all jurisdiction. There’s no alarms before the door closes, which is a no-no for remote operated doors many places. (Possibly inculding your insurance policy)
GoControl makes a zwave garage door controller with flashing light and audible alarm. Its not cheap, usually running $70-100.
Thanks, checked out the gocontrol. Seems like this is the way to go for me. Do you use it? Is it pretty reliable and does it work with the new edge drivers?
I have used 2 go controls on my garage door openers for like 7 years now. Work great. About 5 yrs in the tilt sensors started getting flakey. They use a small ball bearing capsule thing to sense tilt. I replaced those with small mercury tilt switches off of eBay and have been flawless since. Used initially with Abode security system, then mov d to HomeSeer.
If your garage has a button attached to it just add a Zen17 relay to the setup to make it smart.
For example 2 wires run from the garage door opener to a switch on the wall. Disconnect the 2 wires going to the wall switch and connect them to C and NO. Then take a new set of wires and connect them to S1 and C on the inputs of the Zen17. You will the be able to control it from the wall and from your Z-Wave hub.
Because OP stated they used myq I am going to assume that the GDO is new enough to have security 2.0+ and will require something like a garadget contact adapter to work using the method you described. Works flawlessly once you have the extra required contact adapter though!
