Lets ignore “who is the goat” debate. Lets say Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo become managers. Who can have better manager career in your opinion?

I think it would be difficult for both, the more naturally talented players usually struggle to become managers because they seem to have difficulty explaining things that are easy for them to players who do not understand the game that way, most good managers played as midfielders or defenders and were not always the most talented and had to overcompensate for this.

If you put it like that, they both could have retired 3 years ago on the money and businesses they already have, but they’re still going.

That hunger might not go away even after retirement from playing.

Absolutely insane that this is a discussion, one has leadership qualities is vocal and commanding, an insane and infectious drive to win

The other was captain for Barcelona while they were 3-0 down to Liverpool and spent half time biting his nails in the locker room, and is a smidge autistic

They’d both be terrible managers but be realistic here

One rallied his team to World Championship after a shock defeat. The other tried to a snatch goal from his fellow team mate and is a narcissistic pig. (This type argument is stupid, as you can see).

Messi has definitely spent time with better coaches, and has better playmaking abilities, showcasing he might have a better understanding of the game. On the otherhand, he appears to be playing on his instinct, which is probably very difficult to translate into words.

The same leadership qualities that lead him to disrespect his manager, refuse to come on as a sub, kick out a player on the ground when losing? That guy? Screams leadership.

Also being a manager has very little to do with being a leader on the pitch, as long as you get your message across to your players and inspire them you don’t need to be screaming.

Although fully agree that they’d both be terrible managers, much like Henry was

Messi literally dragged his team down the moment they start losing, this man will be Maradona 2.0.

Ronaldo is charismatic and has shown the ability to lead his team to victory even when he’s on the bench, feels like he’ll be Alex Ferguson 2.0.

Imo Ronaldo would look like a more disciplined, less psywar version of Mourinho. Messi would be similar to Zidane imo, prioritizing his players happiness and harmony. Idk about his man management skills tho.

Out of the two i think Ronaldo is the only one who would try coaching at all. He would probably be bad at it, but he is the one who couldn t quit the game even after he retires.

Although it would be fun to watch his antics on the sidelane and press conferences. I would imagine him to be similar to Mourinho in that regard.

“4 Champions league, how many the other managers have? 0. Thank you”

Both will be terrible, but also make rich and famous careers, probably in the countries where they are at the moment.

Unless PSG or national teams would employ them. Anything else would be too small for such names or too big for such a risk.

Messi: Why did you not pass to your teammate? He was wide open!

His player: surrounded by half the enemy team with only the smallest opening free for the ball to pass.

Ronaldo: Why did you not jump multiple feet into the air and bicycle kick the ball into the goal?

    His player: 🫠

I don’t understand why people bring up Ronaldo’s personality as a negative trait of a potential coaching career.

One of the most succesful managers of the past decades was… Jose Mourinho, the guy who called himself the special one.

Because on top of being arrogant Mourinho was tactically much better than the other coaches of his time, same went for SAF.

But on the flip side, look at Mourinho for the past years. He loses his dressing rooms pretty fast, Conte also struggled at Spurs and so on.

Guardiola is pretty arrogant himself but since he’s by far the best manager around players rally behind him and those who don’t just get sold or loaned out

Cristiano Ronaldo literally carried Portugal to a Euros final as a player, got injured in the final, and then managed the team from the sidelines who then won the match against all odds. So Ronaldo.

He did not choose the starting line-up. He did not choose formation of the team. He did not choose the tactics for the game. He did not choose substitutions that were made in the game. He did not highlight the set-piece takers.

He did however jump up and down near the sidelines amd occasionaly yell at his teammates.

If that makes him a manager, then so am I a manager everytime I go to watch my local football team in the lowest league possible, because I also tend to do those things from the stands.

You’re doing too much, OP asked who would make a better manager, there’s very minimal data who would make potentially a great manager and I just went with the one scenario where one of the two players showed up as a manager. Its not that deep. Not sure why Messi fans feel the need to discredit Ronaldo from everything, its just embarrassing.

Literally the best managers in the world were egotists. In fact without one the players these days will walk all over you
