Hello, just got a new house and finished setting up the network. The home comes with a guest house and I wanted to set up a completely separate network for it. I already own a netgear nighthawk router so I wanted to keep that for now and will probably swap it out later.

So I am plugging my modem into a TP link ER605 gigabit vpn router. I set up 2 lans and assigned each lan 2 untagged ports. LAN 1 will be my home network and LAN 2 will be my guest network. They both have DHCP servers enabled.

I am plugging the Nighthawk into LAN1 and setting it in AP mode to give the main house wifi. Also have an EAP 610 plugged in to extend coverage.

I’ll be running a CAT6a cable from the LAN 2 port to the guest house and plugging it into an unmanaged switch. Will then setup an EAP610 over there as well so the guest house can hard wire or use wifi.

In the future I might setup a 3rd LAN to connect all of my home automation/camera devices but for now I will just keep them on my main network.
