On my old PC my secondary HDD would keep spinning when I restarted my PC, but on my new one it spins down and spins back up on restart which I don’t want as it’s not good for the drive.

I have the B650 Tomahawk Motherboard - Is there perhaps some sort of setting I can change? Thanks.

It’s fine. Spinning up down problem is over thought by too many people. The only time you have an issue is when your power settings are so aggressive they spin the drive down after a few minutes of inactivity causing thousands of spin cycles.

A commanded power down is different from a power loss power down because in the latter heads are parked before the power down event and the drive doesn’t need to use the spinning platter as a flywheel generator.

I had a 8tb 5400rpm drive lying around and thought, why not put it in my sound dampened win system.

Windows 10 spins the disk up every 5 minutes, with absolutely no reason and then stops it again. It would be great if it kept spinning but the startup sound is so noticable that I had to ditch it out of the system, it was beyond annoying
