Under appreciated by young fans?(under 20 or so)

I’ve noticed some young (Ronaldo) fans who call Henry a “Pace Merchant” or that he only had pace and was a average striker etc… usually between the ages of 10-13/14

Is Thierry Henry becoming under rated recently? Or is this just noise from CR7 or Tottenham Fanboys.

Man is overrated because people talking about his 20/20 season. Yah king slay 20 goals 20 assists. Look at what happened away from home that season. Arsenal failed to win away to spurs, Chelsea, Newcastle, Bolton, Everton, Man U and Liverpool. Them grounds were kryptonite for Henry throughout his career. He scored seven away against them teams in eight seasons at Arsenal. His failure in 02/03 when he scored against Newcastle away only clearly hampered Arsenal’s title defense.

He scored two goals away to top half sides that season city in 9th and Newcastle 3rd. Arsenal dropped points away to Chelsea, utd,Liverpool, Newcastle, Southampton, Everton and Spurs. They only beat City away out of the top half sides! Henry’s greatest ever season saw his side lose the league away from home and in his greatest ever season he simply didn’t perform.

Look at his 01/02 season for a vanishing act what a bad man before Christmas but second half of the season he went missing scoring in five of the last twenty five league and cup games

Ignoring the cheating at international level, I’m not sure if I’ve ever heard a ‘best Premier League players ever’ debate where he hasn’t featured.

A pace merchant is someone like Vardy or similar. Great player, but once the legs went…

Henry in the premier league was still light years ahead of CR7 in either of his premier league stints.

If you get your opinions on a player from YouTube compilations and fifa then your opinion doesn’t count. Anyone claiming Henry was anything other than world class is an idiot.

Also, what is it with younger fans needed to shit on players they never experienced fully to prop up fucking Messi and Ronaldo? It’s not a binary situation. Just shows a total lack of maturity and understanding.

Who cares what under 20s think regarding a player that they were too young to have watched? Henry left Arsenal after the 06-07 season. Most 20 year olds would have been 4 then. If they watched him at Barcelona, they would have been 7 when he left. At most what they’ve seen are curated highlight reels on YouTube.

People appreciate players that they can often see, nothing new tbh.

For example we can never appreciate how excellent, say, George Best, compared to Antony which is the best player ever

United fan since mid 90s and even though I hated him because he was in Arsenal, it was an absolute joy to watch him play… very few football players have a legacy that plays through generations and across the world… Pele, Maradona, Messi, Ronaldo, Ronaldo, Zidane and maybe 8-10 more that I’m too lazy to type here… beyond them, the other players will have a legacy that carries on within their clubs and some others that last through the generation of fans that watched them and that’s it. You can’t get upset because some kids who’ve been watching the game for five years don’t appreciate sometime that they didn’t even watch playing

Don’t listen to these kids. I once talked about how good Berbatov was and they called me a nostalgia merchant. Nostalgia? The guy only retired 5 years ago 😂😂

When somebody else hits 20 goals and 20 assists in a season we’ll open the conversation. Until then…

Great players are always going to be under-appreciated by people who never saw them play at the time. The likes of Nedved, Romario, Kaka, Suker, Sammer, Hagi, and Stoichkov are also players that don’t get enough credit these days. But that’s just the passage of time for you.

Here’s a cricket analogy, my father thinks Sunil gavaskar was greatest breaking boundaries in time, I saw sachin Tendulkar ho beyond records in my time and I feel he is greatest, the current generation thinks Virat Kohli is breaking all records and going beyond the greatest. All in their place. This is how it’s meant to be. You will like what you lived with.

I mean I started watching football ~99-00 and only watch live games. If you ask me about Cantona or pele or Maradona or … I know squat at the same time I won’t disrespect them. They were before my time at that’s as much as I know about them. If I haven’t watched them play I say I have no openings as I have not watched them play. I know about them from the half time shows and people’s references to them during commentary but other than that no opinion.
