So Anthony Taylor gets demoted for a Championship game last weekend after a big error in the PL the week before, makes another mistake in a Championship game, and now is given a huge game back in the PL this weekend.
I really don’t understand how this makes sense at all.
If he was eased back into the PL after at least a month, it would be understandable.
To be clear, though he has made so many mistakes, I’m not saying that he has to lose his job or referee the championship for the remainder of his career. But surely bringing him back so soon is a mistake?
Especially in a match where Chelsea is playing - he’s known for making terrible decisions against them for years, and now the PL throws him back into a game of such magnitude?
It doesn’t make sense for the PL and Anthony Taylor. I’m sure that he will feel the pressure come Sunday.
Two negative makes positive. I don’t know what they are thinking.
Anthony the Fixer Taylor
Money money moneyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I’m calling it now - he’s going to make some big blunders “unintentionally” and PGMOL will blame him.
I mean no teams should get special treatment.
By your logic, he should ref a game like wolves vs fulham but why do they deserve a lower quality of officiating than others.
The game should have been picked by random, and i hope it was. This IS him being eased back into the prem, a game as important as any other.
That is an excellent point. Well said. Made me check my attitude about what games are “more important” than others. Of course no games are any more/less important than others.
I see what you’re saying but the reality is that some fixtures genuinely are bigger and more important.
You’re allowed to dislike that but it’s still true.
A referee with such a controversial history simply shouldn’t be in charge for this game because then it adds more fuel to the fire as far as corruption and incompetence goes.
If he makes a bad call or a dubious decision that impacts the game that’s all anyone will talk aboutThis is not him being eased back into it, being eased back into it would be a cup game in a few weeks time, not immediately back into a huge fixture
If anything, a cup game is much more important than a league game, since the result of poor officiating could eject a team from the entire competition.
If he is deemed fit to ref Luton vs Wolves, then he’s fit to ref city vs chelsea. This whole attitude of “I’m more important so I deserve the good refs” is disgusting.
I could understand if it’s a derby or a fixture with real history, but the only thing to note about this game is how much money these clubs have. They’re not even competing in the same echelons of the table
But ensuring Taylor doesn’t ref a Chelsea game is ensuring no-one gets special treatment.
As whoever is playing against Chelsea that day is bound to get it.
This is 4D chess from the PL, they’re annoyed with Arsenal for his comments so they’ve assigned the most anti Chelsea referee they could find to ensure City win. (That not that’s unlikely without his help).
Second thoughts, it’s probably not that deep, they’re just inept.
Because that one game in the championship taught him!
The idea that he was ever demoted was bollocks from the beginning, he was rotated.
When you’ve got a Middle East oil budget, you get the referee you want for your games…this is a made up joking opinion with zero facts to back it up.
He should just fuck off to Saudi to be honest. He’s an awful ref full of mistakes that cost people games.
Because the PGMOL is corrupt
We did Mike Riley get promoted to head of PGMOL after this…… We are all just asking questions! Taylor gets rewarded with a huge game, Mike Riley gets the top job!

because demotion is just show.
I’ve seen more people saying he was absolutely fine in the game in the Championship. His game vs Wolves the mistake was more VAR than him as well so I don’t get why he’s criticised as the call he gave probably is fine for a split second decision in his poisition.
But at the end of the day who do you think replaces him? There’s no massive pool of brilliant referees and the ones coming up are often worse.
The demotion to the championship isn’t actually a demotion, it’s just window dressing to make it look like there are consequences for bad decisions or bad use of VAR.
Being completely honest, I also imagine there’s a part of these referees where they probably enjoy refereeing a game without VAR now and again. The amount of scrutiny that they are undergoing after every game weekend is crazy, and I think their use of VAR is intentional incompetence so that we eventually get rid of it or limit its use. But that’s a convo for a different day.
