With Messi being a freak of nature, any player including Pele , Maradona and now CR7 would be under his shadow. But let’s assume,Messi somehow does not exist, how would CR7 be viewed? Would he be the undisputed greatest like Micheal Jordon for football, considering all the league titles and champions league he lost to Messi’s Barcelona.

Depends on if he would have still been a giant douche. My guess is he still would be.

Without Ronaldo Messi would be the undisputed greatest and without Messi Ronaldo would be the undisputed greatest. These two were so far from every other player it’s actually pretty insane.

What a stupid post. So tired of posts like this. You saying that those players are in Messi’s shadow is your opinion and completely subjective, so dont state it as a fact inside of a stupid question

It’s not subjective. Nobody has come close when you consider the total package.

Would Ronaldo have pushed so hard if Messi didn’t exist though? They both pushed each other to greater heights. If Messi didn’t exist it wouldn’t surprise me if Ronaldo scored 500 instead of 800

This. I’d even go further and say without Ronaldo then Messi doesn’t need to push as hard and doesn’t hit his heights either.

He’d be similar to where he is- he’d get compared to Pele or Maradona. The thing with the “GOAT” debate is that it will always be debated- people have different preferences based on what’s happened in the past or whatever.

Let’s not forget than until his WC win some Argentinians would argue that Maradona was a better player than Messi; it’s a very subjective debate.

What the hell are you talking about? In what universe would Maradona and Pele be in Messi’s shadow? Pele will forever be the GOAT no matter who came after him get your act together and gather some football knowledge before you start rambling

Messi is just Fifa’s favorite pet, if Messi was supposed to win the BDR during covid, they would hold the ceremony. But because Lewa earned it they didn’t. The joke of a world cup was won by a team that got 5 penalties gifted to them while playing the most dirty football in the tournament and should have had multiple red cards in more than 1 match. And after that robbing Haaland of winning the BDR just so Fifa’s little pet can have his last one.

If anything Messi being the Goat of football is just a mockery of the sport but FIFA itself is corrupt af so thats not surprising.

I’m European, but I simply don’t understand the appeal of basketball.

First of all, if you aren’t lucky to have 6’6+ genes in your family, you’re completely screwed, no matter how talented you are. In football you can be world class, no matter if you’re 5’4 or 6’7, if you’re skinny or strong.

Second, football is the most popular sport in the whole world. Basketball is only popular in the US and some European countries, most of the times the ones with average football teams (Slovenia, Lithuania, Serbia etc). So, apart from Lebron and Giannis, I wouldn’t recognize any basketball player if I saw them on the street.

Finally, most of the game is useless. If every game it’s gonna end 132-128 (or slightly lower in Europe), what’s the point of celebrating any point scored? In football every goal counts and people celebrate like crazy, because usually only 0-5 goals are scored by both teams in each game. In basketball, if there’s a tight game, just watch the final two minutes and you’re good to go. Can you imagine a football game where every team would score 10 goals each and people would only care if it would end 11-10 or 10-11 in the end? Lmao

Very naive to think he’d win all those league titles and CLs though, Real and Barca heavily pushed each other in that era. Would Real ever invest all that money if Barca weren’t world beaters? A third team could heavily benefit, I can low key see a dynasty for Simeone’s Atleti for instance

Arguably Messi’s presence at the record books is one of the reasons that pushed Cristiano Ronaldo to perform even better. Maybe without Messi, CR7 might just be another “Galactico” instead of someone phenomenal.

This is why I call him the 2nd best of all time very safely. Even with Messi he has taken 5 BDRs, I don’t believe Pele, Maradona, Di Stefano are doing that against Messi.
