Bayern in the DFB pokal in the 2020s 23/24: Säarbrucken 2-1 Bayern, Round of 32 22/23: Bayern 1-2 Freiburg, Quarters 21/22: Gladbach 5-0 Bayern, round of 32 20/21: Holstein Kiel 2-2 Bayern(6-5p) Round of 32

The main reason I find this weird is that it’s not even like they were playing the B team or anything in these games, they were playing not far of a full strength team.

Considering their dominance in the league why do you think Bayern have been so poor in the dfb pokal, is it mentality problem or just a funny coincidence.

Many injured, bad stadium condition, started the match with not A-team players.

Should in theory still be enough, but it wasnt.

I thinks it’s a mix of underestimating the opponent and coincidences. Bayern always loses like 1-4 games to inferior opponents in the league (even when Guardiola was there they didn’t go without a defeat). So it’s not like Bayern doesn’t lose games like these every year, usually it’s just in less important fixtures. Especially the loss in Gladbach is generally pretty on brand for Bayern.

So I’d say them losing so early in the cup 4 times in a row definitely has something to do with chance. But it’s definitely not the whole story. I think Bayern has huge mentality issues. Underestimating an opponent used to be unheard of for Bayern. They took a game against Pilsen in the CL just as seriously as one against Barcelona. Now it’s kinda become the norm for them to underestimate opponents. They make so many mistakes that can only be explained by not taking it seriously, while the opponent is playing their heart out.
