i don’t want to use hamachi, or radmin, or zerotier or whatever, i find that i always have some sort of issue or the other with them, or they’re just too slow.

i know very little about networking in general so i don’t even know if what I’m asking for is possible, i just want to host some sort of network on my computer that my friends could directly connect to that makes it seem to any of the games that we’re playing as if we’re on the same LAN (be it minecraft, or factorio or whatever)

i read that you can setup a VPN but every video i searched up was about setting up a VPN for security or to bypass blocked content which is not what i want whatsoever. i just want some sort of final solution to LAN games. id greatly appreciate any help

You set up a server running openvpn. You port forward the appropriate ports on your router to your vpn server. You get your public ip from your router. Your friends install the openvpn client and connect to your public IP, which places them on your local network. Then you launch the games as if you were sitting next to each other.

It reduces potential issues if you first set your local network IP range to something none of your friends use on their networks.
