I bought this switch:

for my novice home network. The problem is that my router doesn’t have an SFP connector nor do I have a cable to connect it with. In my head I should be able to connect my router using an RJ45 cable directly to one of those 8 ports on the switch and it should work temporarily until the day I have a proper router/modem.

So, I’ve got two questions:

  1. Is it possible for me to connect the router and the switch through an RJ45 ehternet cable directly?
  2. If not, can I connect it using an RJ45-to-SFP transceptor?

    1. Yes that’s how it’s designed

    2. Possibly with the right SFP module

SFP is typically for fiber connections, not copper.
