Considering upgrading my Ring alarm base station to the Ring Alarm Pro since it has the ability to provide backup internet. I live in an area with pretty good cell reception so don’t think that will be an issue. This would purely be for emergency use cases where I needed to access services; however, I would not be running high bandwidth applications on this connection–i.e. Plex. They give you 3GB per month and every GB after that is $3. I don’t really care much about the built in router as I would just pass through the internet connection through to my pfSense box. This just appeared to be a good option as I already pay for the Ring service and would not have the added $30-$50 per month expense for something like T-Mobile or Verizon. Wondering if anyone has tried this out and had any success?

$30-50 is the cheapest you can get a data service over there? I have multiple unlimited 5G SIMs for £16-18 per month with unlimited data.

OP clearly isn’t looking hard… I have a line with 3GB a month of 5G data (plus unlimited throttled after that) for $15

I wouldn’t suggest paying for the upgrade solely for the backup cell Internet

And, to be honest, if you looked into it, you’d probably find it to be cheaper to roll your own entire system rather than dump money into a closed ecosystem
