Long story short, upgraded my unraid to 40gbe via DAC to a windows PC, which has a 40gbe Mellanox matching the unraid server, Iperf is fine, looking great. The problem lies within windows, obliviously the DAC is static and no Gateway 10.0.0.x network. Internet access is needed so using the older 10gb card on the 192.168.0.x network with DHCP to router/ISP. Im trying to force all smb/local traffic to use the DAC while still being able to access the gui of unraid which has another 10gb nic on the 192xxx network. Its semi working but I can tell the route is messed it takes literally 30 seconds before any smb transfer moves. Is there a “proper” way to keep the 40gb DAC to unraid via windows ? I understand I could use bridging in unraid, but worried windows will use the 10gb vs 40gb hoping windows is smart enough to use larger throughput DAC vs a 10gb ? ugh its late I hope all this makes sense I appreciate the help in advance.

If your 40ge is a different network, ie 10.x vs 192.168.x.x and it has not gateway set and you access via the 10.x network IP/fqdn that resolves to the 10.x address you should have no problems.

I access my nas via 2.5ge network between my pc and nas that is on a different network and I see no issues with slow access to the nas for smb.
