What do you feel about Messi this year

Messi is a multi-generational player. However his last year was definitely not his best; he only won because of history.

I look at it this way. Haaland scored a record number of goals in his debut season in the toughest football competition in the world. His team won the treble.

If this is not enough, what more would a striker not named Messi or Ronaldo need to do to win the award?

Haaland’s achievements are only possible because he’s in front of an incredibly stacked team with the best coach in the world.

Let’s also not forget that the quality of Man City throughout the squad could be due to illegal actions according to FFP. None of this ambiguity exists with Messi’s acheivements.

Messi scored more goals in the WC final than Haaland did in all the combined finals and semi finals that he played in. Even if you include the joke finals like the Community Shield and Super Cup.

The context of the goals should matter more than the total.

Remove Haaland from Manchester City and they would have still won the treble … Alvarez would have done better in semis and final matches than Haaland tbh …

Remove Messi from that mediocre Argentina team and Argentina were already kicked out from the group stage of the world cup by Mexico … If not Mexico then Australia … If not Australia then surely by the Netherlands without any doubt …

Haaland scored a record number of goals in his debut season in the toughest football competition in the world.

What are you smoking kiddo !!?? 😂😂
Firstly the World Cup is the toughest football competition in the world , not your premier league … Secondly for your record number of goals there is an award called The Golden Boot … By your logic, if Ballon D’or was to be decided by number of goals and assists then Messi would have won 10 Ballon D’ors by now …

      They should:

Win the most prestigious prize in sports history, carry your team to win, and be the best player in that tournament.

Have very similar goal+assists contributions as Mbappe and Haaland.

And actually perform in important games and finals, unlike Haaland.

      Maybe, just maybe,it is deserved.

But then Ronaldo did this with Portugal when they won the euros and didn’t make top 3. The ballon dor is a bit of a joke of an award to be honest. It shouldnt be given to a player for having a few good weeks of football.
