Hey I know what your thinking but hear me out.

I’m 21 years old and my local is Brighton and-have a non-league team near me whitehawk 45min bus journey from me but supported Man United growing up ( bet you never heard that before). Supported United because only a couple of family members watched football and they were United fans (grandad and uncle). Grandad is sadly not here rip and uncle moved away, so don’t really have any connections or people to talk to about United.

Since about 16 I’ve been thinking about changing football team to a local, as it just seems right and I’ve lost connection with United each year growing up, as all I do is watch them on TV. When United lose it’s like I don’t care.

All I want to do is go to games and have a chat, watching a game all supporting the same team. So I’ve been thinking about supporting non league team Whitehawk across town from me as it looks like a good group of supporters and I don’t want to change to a Brighton fan now as it looks odd, especially as they are doing well. I feel like I can ease out of being a United fan going to Whitehawk games as tickets are cheap and easy to get, so I can go to games regularly. Plus, what’s better than helping a non-league team?

Is it bad to change teams? I know it’s not a popular thing to do, but surely this isn’t too bad?

Had a friend that was a United fan, but started going to watch Charlton with his brother. Full chalton fan now. Do what makes you happy, life is too short to listen to idiots.

At the end of the day support the team that makes you passionate. It you don’t care if Man U win or lose, it doesn’t matter what you say - they aren’t really your team anymore.

If you start going to a local club and making connections and following them - that’s what really matters anyway.

Follow your heart, it’s not rocket science.

Support Whitehawk! I support my local non league team (Hitchin Town) as well as my main team Luton because grass roots non league needs support. Don’t think anyone will begrudge you supporting your local one.

Would you still have switched teams if United weren’t doing as poorly and Brighton weren’t doing as well?

I’m a massive Liverpool fan but often go to Grimsby town matches as the stadium is a five minute walk from me. I care about both teams doing well.

Also as a Liverpool fan, I just want to say that it’s ok to not support United anymore.

    Seen a great tweet once.

“Boys pick a sports team when they are 5 years old and let it decide their mood every weekend for the rest of their lives”

I guess that holds true unless you picked united because they are winning and now that they are not are going to jump on another bandwagon.

Dude, get down to a Whitehawk game if you can. I’ve played against them 3 or 4 times now and they always have a great home crowd with a great atmosphere. You’ll love it.

In this circumstance it’s not bad. However if you were changing to Man City then it would be bad. It’s all about the nuance

The issues comes from people changing teams frequently to support who is ever good at the time. Known as a “glory hunter”.

I think you are allowed to follow Brighton mate just accept the banter thats gonna come with switching from united to them, they are you local at the end of the day and that’s all that matters really.

Honestly, there’s reasons enough to stop supporting united. Abuser supporting club is a massive reason. I’m sure others can fins more reasons.

dont even understand how someone supports a team if their city has its own team.

and this is mostly aimed towards granddad and uncle
