I want to talk about whether Newcastle United could achieve the same kind of success Manchester City has in English football. Newcastle has new owners with deep pockets, just like City had in the past. They’re no longer just trying to avoid relegation; they’re aiming high in the Premier League, competing in the champios league. It’s an exciting time for Newcastle, and it’s got me thinking – could they be the next Manchester City?

Pretty sure that the ownership have already shown that over a period of time they’ll be happy to spend whatever it takes to make it happen.

FFP just wasn’t as big an obstacle for Man City when they had their takeover. That being said, I think 2 things have to happen for us to be challenging for titles consistently:

    1. Academy/youth recruitment has to be so, so much better than it has been. Anderson and Lewis Miley have been the only 2 recent players to come up through the academy and stick around. It’s as much for the cheap talent as it is the ability to sell players for pure profit (which all the top clubs have been able to do consistently).

    2. Senior recruitment hit rate has to be high. We’re already working on tight limits to comply with FFP, so we can ill afford situations where we pay £60m for a player who flops and is sold for 25% of that later. Even a situation like Tonali will set us back this year, because we just can’t go out and buy another replacement to the detriment of any other areas that need strengthening.

Newcastle has to contend with two pretty big disadvantages that City never had to during their rise.

    1. Financial Fair Play
    2. being located in Newcastle

If the trainwreck that is Chelsea right now taught us nothing, throwing money at a problem is only half the equation. You can have all the money in the world, and buy up all the talent you can find but if they don’t have someone driving the car, it’s still going to wreck. Likewise, you could have the best driver in the world, but if your car ain’t got no gas in it, it’s not going to make it very far.

The case with city is they have pep, who might be the dale Earnhardt of football, and they got the money to drive that car through the finish line for a long time.

Yes but it will take time. City were taken over in 2008 but didn’t win the league until 2012 and it was another 10 years after that before they won the champions league.

I don’t think we’ll ever be as dominant as City unless we have a manager like Pep. That’s meant as no disrespect to Eddie or any other manger, Pep is just a genius.

If you think deep pocket is all it takes to win everything, then you need to look at PSG, current Manchester United, Chelsea, redbull lipzig, or even post Messi Barcelona…

Now money is secondary in these football clubs. I think a combination of manager, manager’s support team, good youth/academy players, enthusiastic owner, and good players … Currently, I think many teams don’t possess these all attributes
