Seems like it was designed for touch screens with no regard for people using a mouse.
more like “we forgot to add text size options and we need to release it in 2 days” and the interim dev just slapped together a solution.
Mouse users have the luxury of dragging and selecting the texts without much effort so I don’t think it’s that much of an issue
I often do the double click and drag to select by word like OP does, but double tapping a touch screen is a common gesture to zoom in. I would be annoyed too.
Double tap to select a word is a thing on mobile too, works in most input fields, it annoyed me it didn’t work in jerboa app though, I use it definitely more than I’d use double tap to zoom
