I know I’m officially old when I’m constantly remembering how much stuff used to cost.
When I got my first job as an adult, I budgeted in 1 fast food meal a week, usually a Burger King Whopper combo at $4.75 American. Now, even though inflation calculators confirm it, paying $10.00+ for a fast food meal seems like highway robbery.
I know I shouldn’t complain; I live way better now than I did in an Army barracks, but I just hate spending that kind of money.
On the bright side, phone service got cheaper. It used to be $20.00 for a land line, and you paid for long distance calls. Now I pay $50 a month for unlimited calls&text +10Gb data, and no getting disconnected if someone picks up the phone in the household.
Cable TV was $50 in 2000. Now I pay $60-$80 for internet and choose whatever streaming service I want, if I want. No more paying for sports I won’t watch - sorry Disney/ESPN.
I guess I should just cut my losses and call it a draw.

I remember when nobody associated with Optimus was a billionaire.

[looks wistfully off into the distance]
I figured it was. Pretty convincing right down to those annoying black sneakers with white soles that tech billionaires seem to love nowadays.

Their motivation is staying away from open platforms, and protecting their members’ IP rights. Gotta thwart those pirates.
AMD is nearly 100x the size of Valve, and they couldn’t get HDMI 2.1 approval on Linux. Nvidia somewhat has it with their proprietary drivers, but not nouveau.

At least one person got the joke. 😁

“We need to develop a one universal standard that covers everyone’s use cases.”

For me, it’s that he put profits over people. https://decentfoot.com/how-many-people-died-over-michael-jordan-basketball-shoes/
Sneaker related violence was a big deal a few decades ago in the US, and Air Jordans were at the center of it. He apologized plenty for it, but never actually changed anything.
Shaq and Stephon Marbury were big NBA stars, but they sell their shoes for like $25, because they don’t want to fuck people over.

What’s bullshit about content creators? I enjoy watching documentaries from The History Channel or The Learning Channel. If someone does a bunch of research and self-publishes a documentary, they’re somehow less valid?
The article isn’t about anybody “making money off the fediverse”. It’s about finding a way to make the fediverse viable, considering that everybody wants to use it, but nobody wants to donate.

Thanks for bringing it up. Nobody likes to talk about money in the Fediverse, but it’s a fact of life.
I’ve stopped making Peertube videos lately mainly because I got tired of donating. We’ve got to come up with a better solution.
Thanks. When I was thinking of it, he was the first one that came to mind.
I can’t verify that it’s original, but I’ve never seen it before.

Yeah, I’ve got my own pump too. Great purchase.

In warm weather, it might last all summer. In the winter, I can go maybe 3 months before the low pressure warning comes on. I’ll get new valve stems next time I get tires. For some reason, that hadn’t really occurred to me.

Cool. I’ve always been curious about PF, but never tried it.

I hate that. My car has a leaky back tire. It’s been like that since I bought it, and continued after I replaced all the tires.

I forgot to mention automatic transfers 😞. Those definitely helped me out early on. This was before online banking was a thing. I had to call my bank and ask them to set up an automatic transfer on the 1st and 15th of every month.

Just a personal observation;
Whenever I try to advise people to save their money, I usually get responses like “What money? I can barely get by, lol” or “I’m broke, I have no money to save”. I know they’re exaggerating. They have a job, so they have money.
Saving money is important, especially when you’re just starting out and you don’t have much. It’s not about the actual money you’re saving; if it’s only $5-10 a week, that money isn’t going to actually make a difference, but you’re teaching yourself how to save.
You’re teaching yourself to be disciplined, to put money away and not touch it, no matter how tempted you are. You learn to walk past that shiny stuff in store windows. You teach yourself to steer clear of impulse buys.
People think “I’ll start saving once I’m making more money”, but I say if you blow through your whole salary at $30,000 a year, you’ll do the same at $60k or $90k.
I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but I just wanted to bounce this idea off you all. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
Welcome! It’s been pretty quiet around here lately but hopefully things will pick up.
Personally, I’m semi-retired, but looking to go back to work part time. Sitting at home is driving me crazy.
