3·5 months agoFun fact: Roko’s basilisk is not from QC. It’s a thought experiment about AI that predates the comic character by about 6 years. The character’s just named after it.

9·5 months agoThat’s an interesting question, actually: how DO you go about rebuilding credit, when it’s so bad you can’t get a loan?

21·5 months agoThat’s definitely a subset, but then there’s at least as many, if not more, jerk offs who legitimately thinkbthe government has no authority over them, or think child support is a scam. And the real problem is that NONE of them are willing to listen when they’re told they’re wrong.

politics @lemmy.world•Newsom floats withholding federal taxes as Trump threatens CaliforniaEnglish
82·5 months agoSee, when people say Democrats need to start DOING things to push back against Trump, this is what they’re talking about.
Is this a foolproof idea? Probably not. Could it backfire? Possibly. Will it really help? If it makes the admin second-guess what it can get away with, yeah, that’s helpful. This is the energy we need. Stop playing softball with these fascists.

Satisfactory@lemmy.world•Embracer to spin off Coffee Stain (maker of Satisfactory), rebrand as Fellowship Entertainment and release 76 games in the next year
1·5 months agoYeah, I’m calling myself “cautiously pessimistic” on this one. Coffee Stain’s leadership has proven they know what the hell they’re doing, but being directly under the thumb of shareholders going forward is a powerful force for enshittification. Being based in Sweden, where they have strong regulations on workers rights should be a good balance, but we’ll just have to wait and see how all the powers balance out.

Satisfactory@lemmy.world•A few questions about how I should expand further
3·5 months agoRegarding the bonus question: underclocking. You’ll unlock that in the MAM eventually, and that’ll let you scale diwnstream machines back to match the upstream, instead of only being able to scale the upstream up to match the downstream.
Trying to make production lines all balance to run a single end machine at 100% is a nice goal, but it falls apart pretty quickly early-game. Some products are just REALLY slow, and you might not feel comfortable early game with scaling up your upstream production THAT much.
Me personally, I don’t recommend trying to build “permanent” factories until about the time you get Mk.4 belts.

8·5 months agoBro, we all already fucking knew that. This says WAY more about you than it does Trump.
Either you’re just drawing the obvious conclusion, like the rest of us, in which case, this statement is pointless, and you’re an idiot. Or you actually DO know it for a fact, and you’ve been cool with it, this entire time. Also, in case #2, we gotta wonder how you learned that fact. The obvious answer is “because you’re on there, too”.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who here cries at TV shows or movies?English
3·5 months agoMe for sure. Every so often, I’ll pull something up just for the sake of some tears.
My go-tos include (in no particular order):
- Avengers: Endgame
- The Fellowship of the Ring
- Patch Adams
- The Deathly Hallows (Part 2)
- Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
- Avatar: The Last Airbender
- The Owl House
- House MD (Season 4 finale)
Probably some more I’m not thinking of, at the moment.
I love how he’s got 2 Alaskas and 2 Hawaiis on the map, at the end.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Chilled factory-builder shapez 2 gets a massive upgradeEnglish
6·5 months agoI played it for about 70 hours like 8 months ago, and quite enjoyed it. Will definitely go back, at some point, to see what’s been improved. There’s a REALLY solid foundation there, I think. I like to say it’s the factorio/automation genre, but distilled down to nothing but the gameplay, in its purest, most-concentrated form. My wife and son picked it back up immediately today, when they realized the big update dropped.
One thing they’ve talked about doing is improving the high-level progression. Specifically, they said their concept for better progression will be that milestone products will feed into future milestones, rather than having them just get thrown away, just like you describe. Not sure if that’s made it into the game yet, or not.
For $25 in Early Access, I think it’s a deal. If you’re really worried about there being enough gameplay/progression to keep you interested, wishlist it, and keep an eye on what the updates are adding.

Games@lemmy.world•Elden Ring Nightreign’s Massive Steam Launch Tarnished by 'Mixed' User Reviews Over Lack of Duos Co-Op, Voice ChatEnglish
33·5 months agoI don’t see the game getting either of those things.
Duos, you can already do, you just have to take on a rando as a third. They could scale the difficulty down for 2 players, sure, but Elden Ring’s mutiplayer scaling is notoriously terrible, in part because no amount of scaling can account for the lost potential for splitting aggro, in a game where splitting aggro is king.
Voice chat is something that FromSoft has INTENTIONALLY never included in any prior game, despite there being co-op in all of them. Making players coordinate with each other with very limited communication tools is one of FromSoft’s signature design choices. The fast pace of this game compared to prior games makes the lack of communication tools hurt a lot more, for sure, but it’s still very much playable. Anyone who dislikes this design choice is absolutely free to, but it’s not gonna change.
Poking his fragile masculinity is the entire point.

The entire structure? Hell no, I started this particular project on Day 111. Comparing against Days 119 and 120, it looks like this day was mostly all the pillars and lighting on just this one structure.
